In a remarkable leap towards self-expression and creative exploration, the visionary minds behind Pio Hues, Reign Fausto, and Samuel Legaspi, unveiled a captivating new endeavor. On the date of August 12, 2023, the duo proudly presented their debut flipbook, “Eyeshadow,” marking a significant milestone in their artistic journey. This poignant creation was released across their different social media platforms through Heyzine.
The flipbook, spanning a total of 14 pages, features the poem of Reign Fausto with the visually striking illustrations of Samuel Legaspi. It’s a collaborative piece that seamlessly integrates the poetic prowess of Fausto, a young Filipino scribe, author, and poet, with the visual ingenuity of Legaspi.
The initiation of this exceptional project traces back to the early days of June, a period infused with the celebratory essence of Pride Month. It was during this juncture that Fausto and Legaspi contemplated the notion of self-publishing a poetry book that would not only resonate with readers on a profound level but also pay homage to the spirit of inclusivity and individuality.
At its heart, “Eyeshadow” unfurls a poem penned by Fausto, who initially crafted the verses back in November 2022 as part of a compilation centered around the theme of the ‘Death of Morality.’ The poem, though born from Fausto’s creative depths, evolves into a commentary on the universal struggles experienced by queer individuals within a society grappling with deeply ingrained gender stereotypes. At the core of its narrative lies the potent exploration of a society that continues to clutch onto notions of gender norms, particularly in the topic of makeup where the act is often deemed the exclusive realm of females.
Originally presented on the website of the Apollo – Literary Arts Club, the creative duo saw the potential to elevate this powerful piece further. Thus, it was decided that the poem would undergo a transformation, breathing new life into its verses through the exceptional artistry of Samuel Legaspi.
